If you love Apple products, so you will love the Apple HomePod. Apple decided to enter the smart speaker market and they came up with a masterpiece. The Apple HomePod sounds awesome and has tons of cool features. In terms of sound quality, the Apple HomePod is hands down the best-sounding speaker that I have ever used.

It is engineered in such a way that provides you with all-rounded and balanced music experience. The design of the HomePod is exactly what one expects from Apple. The modern flawless design looks very minimalistic and looks very elegant no matter where you put it in the room. The smart features and the versatility of the Apple HomePod have somewhat been a debating point. But as an avid Apple user myself I have found it to be not that problematic. Obviously, if you are someone who does not use Apple products that much you might run into some problems when using the Apple HomePod. It is certainly capable of most of the things people require to form a smart speaker. In fact, it outperforms many smart speakers in some aspects. I have been using the Apple HomePod for about four months now and here is what I think is good and bad about it.

Aesthetic Design

The design of the Apple HomePod is one of the features that make it premium. I own many speakers from different manufacturers like the Sonos One, Bose Home Speaker 500, etc. and none of them looks as aesthetic as the Apple HomePod. You can put it anywhere in the room and it will enhance the overall style. It is a small cylindrical speaker covered with fabric mesh which feels nice to look and touch. And when I say it is a small speaker, I mean it. It is almost 7 inches tall which is not that big and similarly, it is quite light in weight. There is a power cable that is not removable unlike other smart speakers available in the market. But it is not a big deal as the cable is of pretty good quality and there will be no need to replace it. The bottom of the Apple HomePod has thin rubber feet that keep it in place and prevents it from sliding. The top of the HomePod has an LED touch display. There are two plus and minus buttons that can be used to increase and decrease the volume. Similarly, music can be paused/played, skipped forward/backward by tapping one or multiple times. Siri can also be awakened by holding the center of the display. The LED also shows the Siri logo when Siri is being used.

Audio quality is engineered to Perfection

I have already told you that the Apple HomePod is the best sounding speaker that I have ever listened to. There is a reason why it sounds better than other speakers and it is the way it is engineered. The speaker is packed with eight audio drivers. Seven of these drivers are tweeters that are lined up in a circular array. The other driver is the woofer which is placed in the middle and directed upwards. All eight of these speakers work together to provide a 360-degree sounding experience. Another great feature of the HomePod is that it can detect its surrounding by using six microphones installed in its compact design. These microphones analyze the environment the speaker is placed in and then adjust different levels to produce audio accordingly. And all of this is just the hardware part of the sound production. The HomePod houses a powerful Apple A8 chip inside it which processes the audio before the speakers produce it. After all this work that the Apple HomePod puts in, the audio quality produced is remarkable and as I told to have you already it is second to none. Take my word for it, if you want the best sounding speakers Apple HomePod is the way to go.

Easiest speaker to connect to

Most of the time connecting smartphones or any other device to the smart speaker is full of hassle. Many people find it very difficult and fail to do it. Usually one has to first install an app by the manufacturer on their device. Then you have to go through a whole bunch of set up steps to finally be able to play music through the speaker. Apple analyses this problem and came up with the perfect solution. Like the Apple iPods, the Apple HomePod houses a smart chip that makes connecting to it very simple. All you need to do is bring your iPhone or iPad close to the HomePod and an easy prompt will pop up on your device. After a few simple clicks, you are connected to the HomePod and ready to use it.

Do you Love Apple Music?

Apple Music is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world. It has millions of users and Apple users love it. The Apple HomePod supports the Apple Music as a streaming platform and since the HomePod supports Siri playing music through Apple Music becomes very simple. All you require is to wake up Siri and ask it to play any song you wish to listen to and it will automatically start playing. If you are not an Apple Music user and prefer some other streaming platform the Apple HomePod still has got you covered. Since it supports the Airplay you can start playing music through it very easily. The only problem you might face when using any streaming service other than the Apple Music is that you will be able to use Siri for it. You will not be able to ask Siri to play music through Spotify or any other platform other than Apple Music.

Is Siri as smart as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant?

The smartness of the Apple HomePod has been a talking point since it came out in 2018. The main argument people make is that Siri is not as smart as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. When the HomePod came out in late 2018 it could not set multiple timers, make calls, order stuff online, etc. But Apple took a notice of this and has made many improvements in its system. Similarly, at first two Apple HomePod could not be used as a stereo pair or be used for multiroom playing. But with new updates in its software now the HomePod supports both of these functionalities. And if you are still wondering if Siri is smart or not, in my opinion, it can do all the basic tasks that other AI assistants are capable of.

Final Thoughts

Concluding my experience of using the Apple HomePod, I think it is the best sounding speaker with decent smart features. Some people might not like it that much due to its limitations to Apple products. If you are an Apple user this is a great speaker for you. It sounds amazing, has Siri to assist you, and goes well with the Apple echo system. But if you do not own Apple products then you might want to consider another speaker. Speakers like the Sonos One and Bose Home Speaker 500 are great alternatives to the Apple HomePod. They sound great and are very flexible with different devices. For Apple users the HomePod is perfect and it is worth the price tag.
