Eye-catching Design

This is the general theme of Bose products that they are very stylish. As I have mentioned already it enhances the style of the room no matter where you put it. The body of this speaker is made up of aluminum which has a very smooth touch to it. The bottom half of the body is made in the form of an aluminum grill. That is also the place where two of its sound drivers are placed.

The upper half of the body has an LED display that shows you time and album arts when playing music. For me, this LED display is an important factor that has made it as attractive as it is. It looks really cool when the album art is displaying. The top of the speaker has touch-sensitive keys that can be used to pause/play, skip forward/backward to any song. Similarly, there are keys to turn mic, Bluetooth, etc. on and off. It also has six preset keys that can be assigned different functions like playing podcasts or playing through Amazon Music etc. The top also houses an array of microphones which lets you use voice control even if the speaker is playing high volume music. There is an aux input jack at the back and a power plug on the bottom. The bottom also has rubber feet which keeps it in place.

360 Degree Sound Experience

The placement of the sound drivers in the Bose Home Speaker 500 has allowed it to cover all 360 degree with its sound. The drivers are set up in opposite directions in the body of the speaker. These drivers bounce the audio off the walls and produce a filling sound performance. Moreover, as these speakers are directed opposite in direction, they almost create a stereo effect. You can hear sounds coming out of the right or left channel and distinguish between them. So, you don’t even have to get two of these speakers to make a stereo pair. The sound quality is quite balanced and has rich feel to it. You can clearly separate out different instruments being played in the song. The highs and mids are good even at loud volumes. The bass of this speaker is impressive especially if you consider its small size. Overall, I would say that it is one of the best sounding smart speakers that I have ever used.

Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

The Bose Home Speaker 500 comes with Amazon Alexa built-in. Initially Amazon Alexa was the only smart assistant that is supported. But now it supports both of these assistants so it has become more versatile. I personally like Amazon Alexa and use many Amazon products. I use Alexa for many day to day tasks and find it very useful when I can use it with my Bose Home Speaker 500. Songs, podcasts, etc. can easily be accessed with Alexa voice control. As it now supports the Google Assistant it has cleared out its limitations and has become more flexible for people who do not use Amazon products.

The Bose Music App

Bose Music app is a one-stop-shop for Bose Home Speaker users. I have never used an app that does so much as the Bose Music app does. First of all, it is used to connect your smartphone to the Home Speaker. Setting up your device with this app is the simplest task and it is made easier with the app’s user-friendly interface. When the home speaker is all paired up with your smartphone you can choose the room where the speaker is placed in and make lots of other customizations.

The Home Speaker supports streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Sirius XM, etc. All these services are directly accessible through the Bose Music App. Bose Home Speaker supports Bluetooth devices as well. The Bose Music App lets you pair your device and set up profiles for it. Another great feature of this app is that it allows you to change bass and treble settings. So, if you are like me and like bass-heavy sounds you can change the setting through the app. Moreover, if you have multiple Bose products you can pair them up using this app and use them as stereo pair. Similarly, the multiroom playing feature of the Bose Home Speaker 500 is also accessed through this app.

Tons of connectivity options

Bose Home Speaker will never make you feel limited. This is because it provides tons of connectivity options for playing music. No matter what streaming platform you use you will be able to play through it. It already supports popular Wi-Fi integrated streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, etc. But if you don’t use any of them and have another favorite you can easily play music through Bluetooth. The Home Speaker also has an aux jack at the back, so that is another option available to you. If you are an Apple user you will be pleased to know that it also supports Apple Airplay.

Final Thoughts

Bose Home Speaker is an expensive speaker as compared to other smart speakers but after using it for six months I think it is worth the price. The thing that I like the most about the Home Speaker Is the quality of its sound. It has perfectly balanced sound, can get loud, and has decent bass for its size. For me, these are all basic components of a good speaker. The smart features are also very decent and become very helpful. The Bose app makes using the Home Speaker very easy and is a lifesaver. The different connectivity options come in handy when you want to listen to audiobooks and stuff which is not available at the streaming services. To conclude I would say that if you have the money then go for it, you will not be disappointed.
