The Design of Sonos One speaker is one of its most prominent features. Right out of the box it feels very sleek and stylish. The body of the speaker is covered with an aluminum mesh through which a glimpse of the woofer and tweeter can be seen. The top of the speaker is covered with high-quality plastic which holds the touch-sensitive controls. Basic functions like pause/play and turning the microphone on/off can be accessed through these touch-sensitive keys on the top. Another cool trick is that you can swipe left and right to change the song to previous and next respectively. The bottom of the speaker has a small rubber padding which helps in keeping it in place. There is a power socket on the bottom, a LAN socket, and a synchronization button on the backside of the speaker. Overall, the speaker looks very stylish and modern. It’s small in size and is compact so it doesn’t take much of a space. The build quality is also quite awesome and makes it quite durable. The speaker is also humidity resistant so you can place it in a humid environment like a bathroom without any fear of damaging it.
Surprisingly Great Audio Quality
The sound quality is the feature of this speaker that surprised me the most. I have used many Wi-Fi speakers like the Bose Home Speaker 500, Apple Home Pod as well as smart speakers like the echo dot, etc. I have to say that Sonos One is one good sounding speaker. It easily beats all the speakers of its class and price range. If I had to rank these speakers for their audio quality, I will place the Sonos One speaker second if not equal to the Apple Home Pod. A great feature enables by the Sonos application is the True Play tuning of the speaker. This feature uses the Sonos App on the smartphones to calibrate the EQ and various other settings of the speaker according to the room and placement of the speaker in the room. Couple the True play feature with the greatly engineered speaker and you are in for immersive music experience. You can get loud and has good highs and lows at all the volumes. The bass of the speaker is also quite good especially if you consider its small size.
Do you prefer Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant?
Sonos One is undoubtedly one of the most flexible speakers in terms of smart capabilities. It supports the two major voice assistants namely Amazon Alexa and Google assistant. I personally use the Amazon echo system and have a bunch of different smart devices lying around my house. I own smart speakers like the Echo Dot which are obviously Amazon Alexa enabled. The problem with those speakers is that they are not as good sounding. The Sonos One has now filled this void by proving awesome sound quality and the support for Amazon Alexa both in one place. I use to control different smart devices like lights, garage doors, etc. Moreover, Alexa helps with small day to day tasks like answering questions, setting alarms, etc. You can enjoy these features even if you use Google assistant as your major voice assistant. This is the beauty of this speaker.
The Sonos App makes connectivity simple
The Sonos App is a great tool for controlling the Sonos devices. It is available for both Android and iOS devices. The first and foremost job of this app is the setting up of the Sonos speaker with your smartphone. This is a fairly easy process as the exact instructions are explained step by step in the application. Some people may find the setup process difficult but for me, it was very easy and simple to do. I just followed the steps shown by the application and the Sonos One was set up with my smartphone in no time. If you are finding it difficult to set your Sonos device up you can visit ourblog which will help you with the process. The Sonos application also sets up the speaker according to the room and its placement in the room using the True Play feature. To use this feature all you need to do is wave your smartphone while moving in your room. The application will automatically tweak the EQ and other settings to match your room’s environment. This will give you a great music experience. And for all the people wondering if using this feature makes any difference in the experience or not, my personal answer is yes, it does make quite a difference. Using the True Play feature can be problematic for some people and it is also covered in one of our
Tons of streaming services and multiroom are a bonus
The Sonos One speaker supports a large number of streaming services. This adds to the versatility of this speaker. All of these streaming services can be accessed through the . Moreover, Sonos One supports Apple Airplay which enables you to stream directly from your Apple Device. Another feature that I was anticipating a lot was its multiroom capability compared to other . This feature allows different Sonos devices in different rooms to pair up. You can then play music through any one of these devices. I am planning to install more Sonos devices in my house so I can enjoy this feature. Also, two of these speakers can be paired together to form a stereo system.
To Conclude my experience of using the Sonos One for about four months I would say that it is the best option available at this price range. It offers features and quality well beyond its price tag. People often debate how the Apple Home Pod is the best Wi-Fi speaker but, in my opinion, if you are not an avid Apple user then the Sonos One is the way to go. The reason being the limitation of the Apple Home Pod to catering only Apple devices. As far as the smart features are concerned the Apple Siri is not as capable in my opinion as to the Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. So, the Sonos One beats the Home Pod in this aspect as well. A lot of other Wi-Fi speakers with similar features are also available in the market but they are mostly expensive .
